Ivybridge Town management team
The Jewson Western League is relentless and it is difficult, but Ivybridge Town are proving, on their day, they can mix it with the best.
Results have not always been ideal for the Ivies over the opening ten weeks of the season but when all the components come together, they are a side to be feared in this division, as demonstrated by a superb 3-0 win over a strong Bridgwater United side at Erme Valley.
The fun started with a wonderful goal from Kai Burrell, who befuddled the visiting defence with a mesmerising run before slotting a calm finish beyond the exposed Bridgwater custodian. The second from Burrell was even better, caressing a wonderful volley into the corner of the net, and all of this on his birthday.
The Ivies completed their victory with a rocket strike from teenager Charlie Menear, firing into the roof of the net from 16 yards. Three great goals to earn three big points and move the Ivies into the comfort of mid-table.
While the Ivybridge result was impressive, Buckland Athletic arguably picked up the win of the weekend in this division, defeating leaders Clevedon Town 1-0 on their own turf, thanks to a sumptuous 20-yard strike from Ben Carter.
After a tricky run of results, the Southern League picture is looking a little brighter for Tavistock, who demonstrated their improved confidence and resilience with a 1-1 draw at Melksham Town, although the single point probably should have been more.
The Lambs created plenty of chances in the first period and were given the numerical boost of an early red card for the hosts, but Melksham grabbed a surprise lead ten minutes into the second half and Tavi ended up relying on a sensational strike from Jacob Bowker to ensure they returned home with something from the game.
