Devon boxer has sights on the global stage after winning the European title

Like all sports, the boxing world is gearing up for 2026 with bags of hope, enthusiasm and optimism, and Devon could have a global sensation over the next 12 months.

Since arriving in Plymouth from Moldova as a teenager, Constantin Ursu has enjoyed a rapid rise through the boxing ranks, both in terms of results and reputation.

His coach Marlee Dann is convinced Ursu has all the credentials to become a contender for world titles, and the evidence all points in that direction. Ursu recently added the European welterweight title to a collection that already boasted the Commonwealth crown and he fights Owen Cooper for the vacant British belt in February.

Since moving to Plymouth in 2018, Ursu, 2025, has developed a huge affection for the area and also become a committed Argyle fan. He is often seen running around the city and it might not be long before those are the runs of a world champion.
