Nightwalk on a previous year
As events manager at North Devon Hospice, I’m thrilled to announce that registration is now open for our annual Nightwalk event.
We’re hoping to welcome 1,000 participants to stride the Tarka Trail on Saturday, May 16 this year, in memory of loved ones.
The popular fundraising walk will begin at Bideford Rugby Club as the sun sets, with walkers choosing between a three-mile or 10-mile trek along the scenic route. We’re offering an early bird registration starting from £20, but there are only three days left to take advantage of this special rate before it ends on January 31.
This year’s event promises several poignant tributes along the route that I’m particularly excited about. Upon signing up, participants will be invited to share a song that reminds them of the person they’re walking for, and these tracks will form part of the evening's soundtrack. The beloved memory bridge will also return, alongside other touching stations where walkers can honour those they’ve lost. I can honestly say it’s such a moving evening. Everyone has a fantastic time walking along the beautiful route of the North Devon Tarka Trail. Year after year, I witness the power of this event to bring people together in remembrance and celebration.
What makes Nightwalk even more meaningful is that it’s also a way you can support us to continue to provide vital end-of-life care and support to those who need it most in our local community. So, I’d encourage you to get your friends and family together and make the most of our early bird sign-up offer.
The walk welcomes anyone aged 11 and over, though all participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Each walker sets their own fundraising target, with every contribution helping to sustain the hospice's services across North Devon.
Whether tackling the full 10-mile challenge or opting for the shorter three-mile route, the Tarka Trail provides an ideal backdrop for reflection and togetherness. The event offers friends, families and colleagues the opportunity to walk side by side, sharing memories of those who have left a lasting impact on their lives.
My colleague Hannah Crawley, team lead of our Bedded Unit, put it perfectly when she said: “Every single pound raised through Nightwalk makes a real difference to the care we can provide. We know our amazing supporters often go above and beyond their fundraising target because they understand how much it means to local families.”
Hannah explained that these contributions enable the hospice to maintain its presence in the community.
“These funds help us continue being there for our community, delivering expert, compassionate care exactly when it’s needed.”
The hospice provides specialist end of life care and support throughout North Devon, with services that depend heavily on community fundraising efforts. Events like Nightwalk have become cornerstones of our annual calendar, bringing together people united by loss and the desire to support others facing similar journeys.
With only three days remaining to secure the early bird rate, I’d encourage those interested to register soon. The discounted price offers an accessible entry point for individuals and groups looking to participate in what has become one of the region’s most meaningful charity events.
Registration for Nightwalk 2026 is available at nightwalk.co.uk where participants can find full details about the routes, fundraising guidance, and what to expect on the evening. I look forward to seeing many of you there in May for what promises to be another truly special night.
